House design-A Work Of Art
- Date: 2009-05-23 03:23 pm

- The sight of a house, its beauty and aesthetic appeal, elegance and brightness, can be a source of joy and well being for the owners and occupants. It becomes a matter of pride to possess such a property. But few would realize the hard work that has gone into designing the house, its façade and every intricate detail that was carefully drafted to give the final look of beauty that is awe-inspiring, just as much for the proud owner as the world at large passing by. Houses are designed by architects and built by builders. The concepts and ideas belong to the architect alone who does not just go about sketching four walls of a room and puts a few rooms together to call it a house. He is a planner and designer who takes pains to understand his clients’ needs, try and comprehend their personalities and personal tastes, their dreams about the kind of house they wish to convert into their home, and assimilate them into the plans he drafts. The house design that finally emerges from his drawing table is one that blends with the owners’ requirements and preferences. It is for the builder to see that the architect’s vision becomes a complete reality.
The concept of houses is 10,000 years old and the contrast between those houses and the present day ones is mind-boggling. Houses have evolved with time, starting from rural huts to urban mansions, bungalows, town houses and apartments. Houses have also been an indicator of the economic status of the owner, with the rich building large mansions and villas on vast estates, to the middle class opting for row houses that are semi-detached, or choosing to live in apartments with all their conveniences, and the lower strata of society confined to single or double room accommodation.
House designs vary according to the geographic location as well. House designs for mountains would ideally be along the lines of log houses made of wood, with sloping roofs to permit the snow to slip down. They are sometimes called A-shaped houses. They have fireplaces and insulated seals to keep the house warm in the cold winter months. In the plains, houses in cities would be smaller than the ones on its outskirts, and those in villages, like farm houses or ranches, would have additions like sheds for cattle and so on. These could range from bungalows to cottages, be detached or semi-detached depending on whether the boundary wall is being shared with the neighbor. Places close to the water bodies like the river or the sea would have a few stilt houses built at a level above the water supported at that level by wooden stilts going deep into the ground or water.
House designs with the limitation of a budget and location exude warmth and appear welcoming depending on the owners who live in it.
